Are chaps required or recommended when operating an ECHO® chainsaw or concrete saw?

Modified on Thu, Oct 2, 2025 at 10:48 AM

While not required, ECHO® promotes the safe use of our equipment and strongly recommends wearing protective chaps to enhance operator safety. The chaps are made of 12 layer polyester material that will cause rapid stopping of the chainsaw should the unexpected happen. ECHO® chaps are not a shield against damage, but an aid to prevent more severe damage should the chainsaw come in contact with the operator. ECHO® offers two types of chainsaw chaps.

Apron-Style:

  • 36 in. long, apron style - Part #99988801300
  • 40 in. long, apron style - Part #99988801301
    • Six layers of protective material work to bind the saw's sprocket and protect your legs
    • Water and oil resistant to keep you dry and comfortable
    • Nylon shell makes chaps lightweight but combined with polyester strands offers heavy-duty protection
    • Chaps meet OSHA 1910-266 and ASTM F1897 standards for leg protection
    • The fibers will not stop the sprocket on most electric chainsaws because of their constant high torque

Full-Wrap Style:

  • 36 in. long, full wrap style - Part #99988801302
  • 40 in, long, full-wrap style - Part #99988801303
    • Six layers of protective material work to bind the saw's sprocket and protect your legs
    • Water and oil resistant to keep you dry and comfortable
    • Nylon shell makes chaps lightweight but combined with polyester strands offers heavy-duty protection
    • Chaps meet OSHA 1910-266 and ASTM F1897 standards for leg protection
