No, the debris shield should never be removed from any ECHO® trimmer, unless for replacement. Operating the trimmer without the debris shield prevents the trimmer line from being properly cut to length and increases engine load, which can lead to engine failure. This type of failure would not be covered under ECHO® warranty.
