Using the correct bar and chain oil is important because it keeps the chain and guide bar properly lubricated, which reduces friction, heat, and wear. This helps the chainsaw cut smoothly and efficiently, extends the life of the bar, chain, and sprocket, and improves safety by lowering the risk of chain damage or kickback. Unlike regular motor oil, bar and chain oil is specially formulated to be sticky so it clings to the chain at high speeds instead of slinging off. Without it, the bar and chain can overheat and wear out quickly.
ECHO® offers two types of bar and chain oil, both compatible with all ECHO® chainsaws and power pruners. Other oils may also be used, provided they are fresh (not used or reclaimed) and match the recommended grades: SAE 30 for summer use and SAE 10 for winter or when cutting resinous trees.
